Dr Sally Moorcroft
MBChB, BSc (Hons), MNIMH, LFHom (Med)
My passion for natural health care first began when I worked as a nanny in France, before beginning medical school, as the family I worked for used homeopathy and herbal medicine. Throughout medical school my interest continued and during my fourth year I studied plant medicine in an Aboriginal Health Centre, Alice Springs, Australia for my elective and began using acupuncture myself. Alongside my work and studies in conventional medicine I also began studying nutrition, yoga, meditation and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
After qualifying as a doctor in 1998 from Leicester Medical School and working in hospital medicine for several years I became increasingly disillusioned by the number of patients who never seemed to get better and returned time after time with the same problems. I also saw at first hand some of the devastating side effects which can occur from some drug treatments. I felt I needed to work in a way where I had enough time with each patient to discover the root causes of their problems and to then help them to bring about lasting improvements in their health.
I believe in the integration of orthodox and complementary medicine, sometimes strong treatments with drugs and surgery are necessary and if so they can often be supported or side effects minimised by using herbs, diet or homeopathy to support the body. In addition, if caught early many chronic conditions can be prevented from progressing and health can be returned, and many acute conditions and symptoms can be managed very effectively with a natural approach, thus avoiding the need for prescription drugs at all.
Over the last 20 years I have developed my own integrated approach, in 2004 I completed a BSc(Hons) in Herbal Medicine and trained in Aromatherapy and Massage at the Scottish School of Herbal Medicine, moving back to Lincolnshire to set up The Natural Health Clinic immediately after completing this. During my study leave I also had two children and developed a special interest in treating pregnancy related and childhood ailments. More recently I begun training in homeopathy at the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital, gaining my LFHom (Med) in 2013 and currently in the last year of MFHom training. In 2012 I undertook Foundation Training in medical acupuncture with the British Medical Acupuncture Society and gained my CoBC in 2014.
I am constantly attending seminars and courses to keep my knowledge up to date in all aspects of my practice. Courses attended have included 2 day and 3 day seminars in nutritional and herbal cancer support, functional medicine courses in nutrition for treating heart disease, joint problems, digestive disorders, skin problems, menopause and children’s health. In addition many herbal medicine courses including practical medicine making, migraine treatment, insulin resistance, endometriosis and infertility to name just a few! I have attended clinics at the Whipp’s Cross Herbal Medicine Dermatology Clinic, Whipp’s Cross Hospital in London and regularly attend training in London at the Royal Society of Medicine, London Hospital for Integrated Medicine and the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital. I have recently completed training in Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy with the Marion Gluck Clinic, London.
I am currently running a small pilot trail in conjunction with the NHS and Alzheimers UK. As part of the government programme of Reducing the use of Antipsychotic Medication in Dementia Care the study has been set up to evaluate the effectiveness of using Aromatherapy to treat BPSD (Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia) It is focused on the use of lavender essential oil to reduce agitation, anxiety and to aid with sleep.
My other roles are as a clinic supervisor and lecturer at Lincoln for the BSc Herbal Medicine course, guest lecturer at Hull and York Medical School and tutor at the Portland Centre for Integrated Medicine, Bristol.
Professional memberships include the Independent Doctors Federation (IDF), General Medical Council (GMC), National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH), Bristish Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) and Faculty of Homeopathy.
I do hope I can help you on your healing journey, supporting you in the healthy lifestyle and diet changes you need and prescribing treatments which will heal and rebalance your body and mind.
